WE'RE BACK...BUSY BUSY FOR C-SHIFT

WOW! Non-stop all day. Physicals, chest x-rays, classes etc kept us going all morning. We were able to stop long enough for a famous #9 "gut bomb" hot dog with chili but have been burning the roads since. We have a ride along with us today as well. Our old friend Seth Gitner from the Roanoke Times is back. You may remember our post from when he came out to take some 360 degree photos (see that post here). Well, he enjoyed that visit so much, he decided to expand his project. While Seth is riding with us, his partner (co-worker) is out riding with Engine #3. The day has been busy enough city wide that both should get some good information/ pics etc. for their project. I have to admit it has been a little intimidating having a microphone attached to you all day and a camera in your face. Here's a little example..I think he enjoys sneaking that camera up next to me. We've made several runs with Seth on board and even found the time to do a little training over at Southern Manor. Some Vent Enter Search techniques and practice advancing a charged line up a ladder.
I think what impressed him the most was me in the kitchen. I "took one for the team" and decided to cook today. Boneless pork chops in gravy, mashed potatoes, stewed tomatoes, mac and cheese and Tyrone's favorite...STINKING A** Greens. Seth had just finished asking what happens if you get a call while cooking and wouldn't you know it...we get one. Well, most of you all know what happens... you cut everything off until you get back then you try to save it. As luck would have it, the meal was saved. Our good friend Officer Combs also made it by for a nice hot meal. I think Seth really enjoyed sitting around the table, breaking bread and hearing all the "firehouse table tales". So that's it for now...short and sweet. We'll update if needed, until then stay safe.
